Client: Nazareth Care
Value: $ 15 million (Over various projects)
Completion: September 2019
Farrell Construction has an ongoing long-term relationship with the Nazareth Community of Care. The community is located on the site of the former Nazareth House aged care facility, over eight hectares of established grounds in central Christchurch.
Nazareth Care provide independent living options and aged care facilities including a fully functional hospital, retirement villas with direct link to the rest home services. The scope included the new build of a Chapel and Sleeping and social quarters for the sisters of Nazareth to live onsite.
Working in the live environment at the Nazareth grounds with elderly residents has been identified in Farrell’s risk management protocols and eliminated where possible. Open lines of communication have been crucial to the smooth running of this multi-levelled project.
The Nazareth care projects provided challenges with the configuration and buildability. The combination of high apexes of the steel portals and the multiple roof configurations have challenged the team also combining 3x different cladding products including zinc tile system on the walls to ensure we meet the architects brief and client expectations. The convent although a more traditional build was completed at the clients request 6 weeks ahead of schedule. This call was largely due to good communication between the contractor – Design team – and client where any issues were resolved quickly and efficiently.
