This $6 million main contracting project includes a new extension to the existing gym, additional strengthening to the existing gym, and construction of the Grimes building.
Farrell have resourced this project with its own internal carpentry staff to ensure both quality and programme time frames are met and are the main contractor for this project.
Working in the live environment at St Bede’s College with students/staff and the public (Hockey fields) has been identified in Farrell’s risk management protocols and minimised or eliminated where possible. Open lines of communication have been crucial to the smooth running of this multi-levelled project while working with client project management company TPO.
The gym was delivered by on time, to specification and on budget. The Grimes building is 60% complete and ahead of schedule.
Key Project Challenges:
The Gymnasium has a screw pile foundation of approx. 15 metres depth, this is connected to foundation beams. The challenges have been working to levels below the existing water table with an exceptionally wet winter. Key This challenging method of foundation construction within this environment meant we worked alongside structural engineer to ensure that there is minimal impact to the programme.
Alongside this is working within the existing gymnasium undertaking structural strengthening at working heights over 9 metres whilst still maintaining the functionality of the gym for the school usage daily.
